The Lisboa Card is the official tourist card of the city of Lisbon, available for 24, 48 or 72 hours. We explain how it works in this section.
You can buy the Lisboa Card online or on site in Lisbon. It is available for 24, 48 or 72 hours. When buying online, you select the desired date and duration and pay for the card in advance.
After the online purchase you will receive a voucher by e-mail. This voucher serves as proof of the Lisboa Card you have purchased. Tip: You can save the voucher in digital form on your smartphone - a printout is not absolutely necessary.
The voucher can be used to collect the physical Lisboa Card in Lisbon. To do this, go to one of the official "Ask Me Lisboa" tourist information offices in the city. Examples are the counter directly at Lisbon Airport or tourist information offices in the city center, for example at Praça do Comércio (Terreiro do Paço). Show your voucher there and you will receive the Lisboa Card in credit card format in exchange.
The card is only activated the first time it is used. The validity period of 24, 48 or 72 hours runs from this first use. You do not have to use the card immediately after purchase - the countdown only starts when it is used for the first time (e.g. when entering a museum or at a metro barrier). Example: If you use a 24-hour card on the first day of use at 14:00, it is valid until 14:00 the next day.
The Lisboa Card gives you free entry to numerous sights and museums. Simply present the card at the cash desk or at the entrance. The staff will scan the card or issue a ticket. At some busy places, there are even separate entrances for Lisboa Card holders (e.g. a special queue at the Castelo de São Jorge), which can shorten waiting times.
The Lisboa Card is also valid as a ticket for all public transport in Lisbon during its validity period. You have unlimited use of buses, streetcars and subway trains - simply hold the card up to the ticket scanners in subway stations or show it when boarding buses and streetcars. Important: Each person needs their own Lisboa Card - it is non-transferable and must be used per person.
